Dairy Farm profile

Growing food manufacturer demand means that we constantly looking to increase our milk supply from key dairy farming communities across the North West and Wales. Cumbria is just one of the regions where we have invested in new dairy farm infrastructure. Here Lyndsey Awde, who runs a dairy farm with her brother Francis in Penrith, explains how it's helped her to boost milk production:

"We recently installed a new state-of-the-art rotary milking parlour at our dairy farm in Melmersby - increasing our herd to almost 400 cows and boosting milk output to 10,000 litres of milk a day.

"Meadow Foods' commitment to Cumbria gave us the opportunity to invest in the new milking equipment, with the security of knowing that we would have a stable milk buyer for the extra milk.

"We're now selling an average of 10,000 litres of milk a day to Meadow Foods and we still have capacity to increase the dairy herd. The milk we supply can end up in anything from liquid milk supply to chocolate bars, ready meals, soups and sauces. This diversity, combined with growing demand from food manufacturers, was why we chose to supply the dairy market and we're confident that the dairy industry offers a stable long-term market for our milk."
